This rainy Colorado elopement included two of the kindest, sweetest people we’ve ever met! Yifan and Donghui are both super shy and soft-spoken, but have the purest of hearts and only have eyes for each other. Our sweet couple eloped in the Colorado mountains on a cloudy Monday afternoon. The moodiness was absolutely everything! Overcast skies brought an incredibly romantic element to their Colorado elopement and I am just so excited to share this magic with you.
Yifan and Donghui have known each other for over ten years. They met back in high school and have been attached ever since. Donghui received an offer to study in the US, so Yifan joined him on the adventure and they started their new life together!
It was important to Yifan and Donghui that their wedding was intimate and focused on their love. Personally, I don’t think they could have had a more perfect day. This rainy Colorado elopement was so special and we are so thankful that they invited us to be a small part of it! To start out their wedding day, Yifan and Donghui helped each other get ready. I always find moments like this to be the sweetest, there is so much beauty in these tender moments and they just get me every single time.
After helping one another into their wedding attire, Yifan and Donghui read personal letters to each other and shed many, many tears. It was the most perfect and sentimental start to their wedding day. For this portion of the day, Yifan wore a traditional handmaid Chinese wedding dress – the details were unreal!! To infuse elements of their culture into their elopement, the couple had their room decorated with the Chinese symbol of joy and happiness. This symbol is used to represent double joy and happiness for the couple as they begin their marriage. LOVE!!
It was then time to head up to the mountain for their ceremony. Yifan switched into her western wedding dress for the first look and ceremony. Guys… I’m still drooling over their ceremony arch! It was absolutely stunning and flooded with pink and white flowers. What I loved about this design was how it popped against the cloudy backdrop we had on this day in the Colorado mountains – thank you unpredictable weather!! Yifan and Donghui exchanged rings and sealed the deal with a kiss. Before heading over to dive into some cake, we spent a while celebrating and had so much running around the mountain with their cutie little pup, Summer. This pup is a MODEL! I mean just look at how she pops out from Yifan’s dress, the cutest!
Want to know a secret? You don’t need to go on a crazy long hike to elope in a beautiful place just like this!! We found this epic location in the mountains of Aspen and it was SO easy to get to.
After officially becoming husband and wife, Yifan and Donghui cut their adorable wedding cake and shared a bite at the beautifully dressed table set picturesquely in the middle of the mountain. As we celebrated and cut the cake the rain picked up, but Yifan and Donghui totally rolled with it! Unfortunately, the weather was very unpredictable on this day in Aspen which isn’t usually ideal for an elopement. Luckily, we were able to capture their ceremony and bridals right before the rain started coming down. Instead of hiding from the rain Yifan and Donghui fully embraced it. Their goofy side came through and they soaked in every moment of their Colorado elopement!
Many couples come to us wanting to elope but are not willing to separate from some of the traditional elements that are custom to a big wedding. I’m here to tell you that just because you’re choosing to elope doesn’t mean you have to give up on those traditions! We have had many of our couples participate in wedding traditions on their elopement day, and it always turns out perfectly. We want you to do what makes you happiest!
These two made it a priority to share their first dance with one another and it was absolutely stunning! Yifan changed into a beautiful red dress that she could move around more easily in, and their first dance was choreographed!! It was so pretty and I was just grinning ear to ear snapping photos of them dancing and running around in the rain. I can’t think of a better way to end this perfect day.
