I have wanted to take a couple to this iconic location for FOREVER, but it’s a tricky setting to photograph because of how rare the poppy blooms are. I knew capturing a vibrant, wildflower couples session at this beautiful location would require some planning, so when we knew they would bloom this year, I got to work promoting the idea!
After recommending the location to a few couples, I decided to see if any couples who followed us on social media would be interested in booking a specific session for this location. I knew I would find the right couple on Instagram, and that’s when Faith and Alex slid into my DM’s!
Faith and Alex reached out super excited about the idea, and I knew they would be perfect for this shoot. I’ve known these two for years, and they were getting ready to celebrate their fifth anniversary (the timing was spot on)! Because these poppies only bloom every five to ten years, it felt like a sign from the universe that we were photographing Faith and Alex’s fifth anniversary in a blooming year.
Frolicking Through Arizona’s Poppy Fields
This wildflower couples session was a dream come true for me. I wish I could tell you exactly where we were, but that’s the beauty behind these rare blooms! These poppies are quite literally in the middle of nowhere in the desert, but 1000% worth the adventure.
The moment we set our eyes on the fields of poppies, I knew my vision would come to life beautifully. We arrived right around golden hour, and the poppies were illuminated in the sunlight. The already golden flowers were even more vibrant and beautiful. It was so much fun working with Faith and Alex to create such a carefree couples shoot, and I was SO thankful that they were willing to get creative with some different poses and photo styles. We even whipped out the film camera for a bit!
Because I’ve known Faith and Alex for a while, I knew they would feel comfortable with me, and they were! We all laughed together as we frolicked through the poppies, stopping occasionally to take in our surroundings. There’s no way to fully explain how incredible this setting is when the poppies are in full bloom, you HAVE to see it!!
Faith and Alex’s Vibrant Wildflower Couple’s Session
Faith and Alex were down to do anything for this session, so that’s exactly what we did! From cozy poses snuggled up in the poppy blooms to adorable action shots of them dancing, sharing their secret handshake, and even taking photos of one another, we had the best time together. I always love working with couples I’ve worked with before or know personally, and it allows us to all have fun and enjoy our time together without feeling pressured by the camera lens.
We ran around in the fields until it got dark, and the vibrant glow of the poppies began to fade. Although this bloom may not occur again for five or ten more years, I am already dreaming about the next time I can bring a couple out here. It was a beautiful landscape and so much fun for a wildflower couples session! I cannot thank Faith and Alex enough for helping me bring my dream shoot to life and being the most adorable couple.
