Engagement sessions never get old. When a couple is newly engaged there is a magic energy that radiates off of them. Smiles are wider, eyes are filled with love, and the excitement just keeps us going! Often, the engagement session is the first time we meet a lot of our clients. It’s a fun way to get to know each other before the big day and allows us all to really be ourselves and discuss what the vision is for every photo. Engagement sessions in Arizona are always a treat, providing us with romantic sunsets and fun landscapes to work with. There are so many places in the state we dream of taking our couples to! For this sunset engagement session, we brought Melanie and Jake to one of our favorite desert locations. Towering cacti, vibrant red rocks, and endless desert land provided us with the perfect environment to experiment with new poses and capture a unique engagement session for these two sweethearts who get married later this year.
Sooo spoiler, we’re going to be moving to the PNW soon (whaaaattt!!) it’s crazy to think that soon the pastel and pink Arizona sunsets won’t be our norm. However, we are so excited for the future (more on that at another time hehe). Sunset engagement sessions in the Arizona desert have been one of our absolute favorite parts of being a couples photographer and videographer. Engagement sessions are great because they allow us to have a little more downtime. We get to take things slow and get to know the couple as we photograph them. Something magical about a sunset makes you want to slow down and reflect on all the beauty in your life; which, is exactly what we did on this gorgeous evening!
As I got to know Melanie and Jake (and as they got more and more comfortable in front of the lens), we captured amazing photos. I feel that the more we get to know each other the better the images turn out! When our clients are comfortable in front of us AND the camera, now that’s when the magic happens. Slowing down, getting to know each other, and really being in the moment as humans allows us to take it all in and be even more intentional with the shoot.
Mel reached out to us with so much excitement for their engagement session. I knew we were going to click and her energy had me hyped up for their photos! Jake was a trooper and was down for whatever would make Mel happy. It was so fun working with these two and I just loved how willing they were to try a bunch of creative poses.
Melanie and Jake had two different outfits, both equally perfect! When we started the shoot we were walking through the desert past tall cacti and running up onto cool boulders and rocks. Melanie and Jake matched with black pants and white tops, but allowed their personalities to shine with their jackets – Mel in a classic denim jacket and Jake in a tan button-up. They danced around in the desert with the happiest smiles I’ve ever seen.
After spending some time capturing casual photos they switched into their slightly dressier outfits – Mel in a long-sleeved dress and iconic white boots and Jake in a dark-grey long-sleeved shirt. We had so much fun playing with different poses as the sunset lit up the sky in vibrant shades of hot oranges and pinks.
I just loved hanging out with these two for their sunset engagement session, and we’re SO excited for their industrial-style wedding later this year in Minneapolis. It’ll be our first time traveling there and I cannot WAIT. Feel free to send your Minneapolis recs!!
For Melanie and Jake’s engagement session, we wandered around the amazing Arizona desert. One of my favorite experiences to have with couples is during adventure engagement sessions! Whether you’re dreaming of mountain-top views or cliff-side cuddles we want to bring your engagement session to life. Seriously, we are SOO down to travel and explore with you! Drop into our inbox and let us know where you want your adventure engagement session to take you. We can’t wait to see what you suggest!
