It’s the way I am completely obsessed with Amanda, Jordan, and this adventure couples session!! Like, I may or may not be currently googling the next flight back to Hawaii as we speak. I don’t even know that I have the words to express how much I would LOVE to relive this day all over again. However, I guess fantasizing about being back on that gorgeous island while looking at Amanda and Jordan’s surfing couples session photos will just have to do for now, haha! These two lovers are serious magic, we had the best time waking up with the sun and dancing around in the sand on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii.
One of my favorite feelings in the world is laughing and having a great time with sweet people, and that is just what we did this morning. Amanda and Jordan had us all laughing the whole time as they rolled in the sun-soaked sand. These two are big ocean lovers so naturally, they were down for anything that had to do with the water! I am still in shock over the fact that we hardly had to give them any direction when it came to these photos. They were so comfortable with one another, it clearly showed!
Adventure sessions are one of my absolute favorite types of shoots to be a part of. As a photographer, I just feel so much joy capturing couples in their element and having fun with one another. I adore weddings, elopements, engagement sessions, etc. but the fact that most couples’ sessions have absolutely no pressure or expectations around them adds an element of excitement. We encourage our couples to let loose and pretend as though we’re not there. This results in the BEST most authentic photos!
Amanda and Jordan’s surfing couples session was a little different than our typical shoot because we actually had a few other photographers there with us. I’m always a bit nervous about how my couples will react when we bring in additional photographers, that’s a LOT of lenses to stand in front of! But our amazing couple were absolute naturals. In fact, this shoot had an added level of energy because of how many of us were there enjoying the good vibes. Amanda and Jordan acted as though there wasn’t another soul around, seriously I think at one point they actually forgot we were there!
If you’re new here then let me tell you something about me… I LOVE film photos. Naturally, I just had to bring the film camera along and I am SO glad that I did. The ethereal feeling the film brought to this shoot was absolutely everything, it felt like a vintage ad. The colors of Oahu are vibrant and unlike anywhere else in the world — yet somehow they felt soft and romantic through the film lens.
When the sun started to break through the clouds we knew it was time to start wrapping up the shoot, but Amanda and Jordan had to get into the water before we called it a day! Truthfully, I think this was my favorite part of the entire session. These two are incredibly talented surfers (I’ll admit, I’m jealous!!) and their faces lit up once they got into the crisp water. Surfing is something they love to do together and it was amazing to watch them be out in their element! They caught their first few waves as we all cheered them on from the beach laughing as they whipped through the water. We even decided to pull the drone out for a few shots once they got out into the ocean and I am SO glad we did.
Post-session sadness is REAL but editing the photos we captured always brings a little bit of magic back into our hearts. When editing the photos we are really able to soak in every detail of the shoot and that’s exactly what we did with this surfing couples session!! I loved revisiting their joyful smiles and laughed thinking back on the memories of the day but my favorite part of editing was when we got to the drone shots. These photos turned out AMAZINGLY (National Geographic, please hit us UP!!). What made these drone shots extra special was the surprise we found when editing, we hadn’t noticed when shooting but there was an adorable sea turtle surfing right beside Amanda and Jordan!! I am SO glad we captured this moment because it seriously is a once-in-a-lifetime kind of photo.
The North Shore of Oahu may have stolen my heart but Amanda and Jordan have kept it! These two are just full of radiance and I am so glad our paths crossed. It was such a treat being able to capture their adventure session while we were in Hawaii and I’ll remember this day fondly.
