Let’s talk about engagement photos. You get engaged, celebrate, take engagement photos, post them allllll over social media… and then what? As wedding photographers, one of our favorite things to do is spend time with our couples prior to the big day by shooting their engagement session. When I say we love taking engagement photos I mean we LOVEEE it!! The fiancé phase will go by fast, and we want our couples to soak in every moment. We also know that it can be an investment to pour time and money into high-quality engagement photos, so we always want our couples to get the most out of these images.
If you’ve ever spent time with an engaged couple (or if you are one), then you’ll understand the infectious love that radiates off them. There is so much anticipation for the future, and so much excitement in every second spent together. Our couples have filled our DM’s and messages with love notes about how much fun they had during their engagement session and how obsessed they are with the images! But, there is a common question we are asked by our couples and that is if we have any recommendations on how they can use their engagement photos in unique ways that aren’t just non-stop posts on Insta. So, we decided to share a few of our favorite ways to use engagement photos!
Almost every couple that comes to us for an engagement shoot hopes to use one or more of their images on save the dates and invitations. This period in time is the prep for your wedding day so why not use it to share the big news? Save the dates and wedding invitations are an important part of the wedding planning process, so make them memorable! You can include your favorite photo on the back of your save the dates or throw in a collage insert on your invites. Your guests will be obsessed the second they open that envelope and see your smiling faces!
Save the dates and invitations aren’t the only ways to use engagement photos. We’ve had many couples make guest books out of their images and we LOVE this idea so much! Whether you want to bind your guest book nicely or make a guestbook for guests to sign, there are so many options on how you can use these photos!
You’ve already invested in a great photographer to bring you the engagement photos of your dreams, so we suggest investing in displaying them nicely! Having your photos professionally printed and framed will ensure the highest quality, and you will be admiring these photos for ages! We love seeing our couples display these beautiful shots around their wedding venue and homes. It’s such an easy way to personalize a space and share such a special time in your life with guests.
Okay, so this may be obvious but you so totally should share your photos online! Whether your go-to spot is Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok, your engagement photos deserve to be seen! In 2022 we have the ability to share memories with as many people and loved ones as we want. What happy couple wouldn’t want to show off their gorgeous photos of them and their partner? Often, family members or friends you’ve lost touch with will see these photos pop up on their feeds — feeling overjoyed knowing you’ve found love and thrilled to see how happy you are. Engagement photos bring out so much joy in others whether they know you or not, something about the surprise moment and those happy tears brings out alllll the feels!
If you’re not huge on social media, you can also incorporate your images into your wedding website! Almost every couple we meet these days has one — wedding websites make it SO easy for guests to RSVP and help you figure out all the steps along the way. Personalize your site with engagement photos for guests to scroll through as they note all the important info for your big day.
You’re married. You’ve celebrated. Now, it’s time to reminisce! If your friends and family spent time and money to be involved in your wedding day, it’s a great idea to send out thank you notes. We’ve seen many couples use images from their engagement session for thank you notes, and we love this idea so much! Take it up a notch and do a side-by-side of an engagement photo and a wedding photo to really remind guests of what a beautiful journey they have been on with you.
Another wonderful way to keep your engagement photos cherished forever is by creating a photo album for your coffee table. You can have two separate ones; one from your engagement session and one from your wedding. Or, you can combine both into one large album! Set this on your coffee table where guests will gather and enjoy flipping through the pages, laughing about the memories you shared during this time. It is such a fun touch to add to your home, one that will be cherished for a very long time.
Engagement sessions are incredibly important and we want you to enjoy every ounce of joy you experience during this time. We love sharing ways to use engagement photos with our couples, so if you have any memorable ideas let us know what you would do!
Ready to book an engagement session? We’d love to capture it for you! Reach out and let’s start planning.
